Can you not see the way those two bins are leaning towards each other? WHAT DO YOU HAVE AGAINST TWO BINS BEING IN A RELATIONSHIP? Some bins love other bins, get over it.

Everyday the bin sat there, helpless, a previous injury to its back wheel keeping it at a perpetual slump to the left. Every new day was like the last: lid raised, trash deposited, lid closed. Rats scurried. Children threw balls that ricocheted off its sturdy plastic body. On Tuesday, Charlie and Zeke (the bins favorite garbage men it secretly believed were destined to be together if only Zeke would stop bitching about his ex-wife and see all the longing looks Charlie sent his way as they collected the refuse) drove the garbage truck up, and removed the trash, leaving the bin empty again. 

But one day, one glorious day, they didn’t just haul away the trash. They left… a recycling bin. 

The recycling bin was new and shiny, its sides still intact, its hinges and wheels still in perfect working order. It stood beside the trash bin proudly waiting to take the aluminum, the cardboard, the plastic, and glass. It was kind to animals, letting the neighborhood cats seek refuge on top of its sturdy lid. Even more, the recycle bin never looked down on the trash bin or judged it for being lumpy and dented and   broken. The recycle bin accepted the trash bin for what it was. And when the wind blew through the alley the recycle bin stood proud, protecting the trash bin from the cold. 

And for the first time, the trash bin knew what it meant to love…
